Mughal gardens in the morning, the old city at midday, Shankaracharya in the afternoon and a shikara at sunset. A private car with our Srinagar driver, quoted for your date.
Direct answer: You can see the main sights of Srinagar in one full day: Chashme Shahi and Pari Mahal early, then Nishat and Shalimar along the lake, Hazratbal on the Dal shore and the old city (Jamia Masjid and Khanqah-e-Moula by the Jhelum) at midday, Shankaracharya in the afternoon, and a shikara on Dal Lake at sunset. Garden tickets are paid at the gate and the shikara is paid to the boatman; we do not print those fees. A private car with our Srinagar driver for the day is quoted for your date. Our Srinagar 4D/3N package is ₹12,999 per person (2 sharing, 5% GST included) and already includes city sightseeing and a 1-hour shikara.
Early morning: Chashme Shahi and Pari Mahal. Chashme Shahi is the smaller spring garden; Pari Mahal is the viewpoint above it. Gardens get busy from late morning, so these go first.
Morning: Nishat and Shalimar. Nishat sits on the lake shore with its terraces facing the water, and Shalimar is further along the same side. Going in this order avoids crossing the city twice. More on the Mughal gardens of Srinagar page.
Midday: Hazratbal and the old city. Hazratbal is on the Dal shore. Then Jamia Masjid and Khanqah-e-Moula by the Jhelum, with a bakery stop for kulcha and girda. At mosques and shrines, cover shoulders and legs, carry a scarf, and ask before photographing people.
Afternoon: Shankaracharya. The road goes up the hill, then stone steps lead to the temple, with a view over Dal Lake and the city.
Sunset: a shikara on Dal Lake. Board at a ghat on the Boulevard or from your houseboat. An hour is a common sunset ride, past Char Chinar and the lake-side markets. Agree the time with the boatman before you sit down. See shikara booking on Dal Lake and our sunset shikara guide.
It is a full day. If you landed the same morning, or you are travelling with elders or small children, split it: gardens and Shankaracharya one day, the old city and the shikara another. That is how our 4-day Srinagar package runs it. Do not try to add Gulmarg, Pahalgam or Sonamarg to a Srinagar sightseeing day; each valley takes its own day (see day trips from Srinagar). The floating market is a separate dawn ride, so skip it after a late flight.
The Mughal gardens look best from late spring through early autumn, when the terraces are planted. In January many beds are bare. The tulip garden, open around April, is a different garden on the Zabarwan side; see Srinagar tulip garden. In winter a shikara goes out only if the boatman is going, so dress for the wind. Check the Kashmir weather guide for your month.
The day runs in a private car with our Srinagar driver, tolls and parking included in our fares. A Srinagar sightseeing day is quoted for your date; WhatsApp us. For comparison, our same-day return taxi from Srinagar to Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonamarg, Doodhpathri or Yusmarg is ₹2,500 in a Toyota Etios or Swift Dzire and ₹3,500 in an Innova Crysta (Kashmir taxi rates). A Srinagar airport taxi starts from ₹1,200; the airport is about 14 km from the city centre.
Paid on the spot: garden gate tickets and the shikara fare (unless your package includes the 1-hour shikara). For where to stay, see the Srinagar travel guide and the Dal Lake houseboat page.
Yes, in one full day: Chashme Shahi, Pari Mahal, Nishat and Shalimar in the morning, Hazratbal and the old city at midday, Shankaracharya in the afternoon and a Dal Lake shikara at sunset. Split it over two days if you landed the same morning.
Chashme Shahi and Pari Mahal first thing, then Nishat, then Shalimar further along the same side of the lake. That order avoids crossing the city twice and beats the late-morning crowds.
A Srinagar sightseeing day is quoted for your date; WhatsApp us. Our same-day return valley taxi is ₹2,500 in an Etios or Dzire and ₹3,500 in an Innova Crysta, and the Srinagar 4D/3N package at ₹12,999 per person includes city sightseeing.
No. Garden tickets are paid at the gate and the shikara is paid to the boatman. Our Srinagar package includes a 1-hour shikara.
Yes for the old city, Shankaracharya and the lake views, but many garden beds are bare in January and a shikara goes out only if the boatman is going. Dress for the wind.
