What you need to rent a bike

Each rider needs a valid driving licence that covers motorcycles and an original photo ID. Wear a helmet; it is the law in India for rider and pillion. The rate, any deposit, fuel and kilometre terms are confirmed with you on WhatsApp before you take the bike.

Where can you ride from Srinagar?

The usual day rides from Srinagar are Gulmarg (about 51 km via Tangmarg), Sonamarg (about 80 km up NH1) and Pahalgam (about 95 km). Pahalgam is a long ride for one day, so many riders stay a night. Inside Srinagar, the Boulevard along Dal Lake and the Mughal gardens are easy rides.

Best time to ride, and when to take a cab instead

Riding is easiest in the warmer months, roughly spring to autumn. In winter the roads to Gulmarg and Sonamarg can have snow and ice and may need chains or a 4x4, so we suggest a cab instead. Check the Kashmir weather guide for your month.
