For a 6-day, 5-night trip covering Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam, a couple usually spends somewhere between ₹28,000 and ₹90,000 on the ground, flights not included. That's a wide range, so below we break it down the way we'd price it for you, line by line, using the rates our Srinagar desk quotes in 2026.

Where the money actually goes
1. Your car (35 to 45 percent of the bill)
An Etios or Dzire costs ₹2,500 per day and an Innova Crysta ₹3,500 per day, the same rate as our day trips. For six days that's ₹15,000 for a sedan or ₹21,000 for a Crysta. Tolls and parking are included in our fares. Ask about driver allowance and fuel.

2. Hotels and houseboats
- Standard 3-star: about ₹2,500 to ₹3,800 per room per night.
- Deluxe 4-star: about ₹5,500 to ₹9,000 per night.
- Houseboat on Dal or Nigeen: about ₹3,500 to ₹7,500 per night, usually with breakfast and dinner.
- Luxury boutique in Gulmarg or Pahalgam: ₹18,000 and well beyond.
One night on a houseboat is plenty for most couples. It's an experience, not a hotel replacement.
3. Food
Plan on roughly ₹500 to ₹800 per person a day if you eat at local dhabas and simple restaurants, ₹1,000 to ₹1,500 for mid-range places, and ₹2,500 or more at the big hotels. A proper Wazwan meal is worth budgeting for once. Most hotel packages include breakfast and dinner, which cuts this a lot.
4. Activities and tickets
- Gulmarg Gondola: roughly ₹800 for Phase 1 and ₹1,000 for Phase 2 per adult as of 2026, so about ₹1,800 for both. Book only on the official J&K Cable Car Corporation site.
- Shikara on Dal Lake: budget around ₹1,500 per boat for a relaxed two-hour ride.
- Pony ride in Pahalgam (towards Aru Valley or along the Lidder): paid at the union stand at the posted rate; ask us for the current figure the week you travel.
The costs people forget
This is where "cheap" packages stop being cheap.
- Pahalgam union taxi: your Srinagar cab can't do the Aru, Betaab and Chandanwari circuit. The local union vehicle costs about ₹2,200 to ₹2,800 per vehicle.
- Snow on the Tangmarg-Gulmarg road: in winter, chains cost about ₹800 to ₹1,200, or a Tangmarg 4x4 about ₹2,500 to ₹3,500 return.
- Houseboat heating: some boats add ₹600 to ₹1,200 a night for the bukhari in winter. Ask if it's included.
- Your flights: not in any of the numbers above, and fares to Srinagar swing a lot by season. Book them first.

Working from the same rates: an Innova Crysta (₹21,000), two rooms for five nights (₹25,000 to ₹38,000), the Pahalgam union taxi (₹2,200 to ₹2,800), Gondola for four adults (₹7,200), a shikara (₹1,500) and food at budget rates (₹12,000 to ₹19,200) comes to roughly ₹69,000 to ₹90,000, before flights and any winter extras.
Solo or backpacker
Sharing cabs, using shared taxis from Srinagar and staying in guesthouses, a solo traveller can keep six days to roughly ₹18,000 to ₹25,000. Doing it solo with a private cab costs a lot more, because you're paying for the whole car.
How to spend less without ruining the trip
- Travel outside the peak weeks. In our experience, late October to early December and March are calmer on price than Christmas-New Year.
- Don't over-pack the itinerary. Fewer hotel changes means fewer long drives and less fuel. Our 7-day Kashmir itinerary shows a relaxed pace.
- Pick the right car. Two people don't need a Crysta. Six people with winter luggage do.
- Book the Gondola yourself, online, on the official site. Never pay a tout for a "fast-track" ticket.
- Carry your own warm layers instead of renting poor-quality gear on the mountain.
