A pony ride in Kashmir is a short hire at the meadow, led by the pony wallah, not a tour you buy in Srinagar the week before. The three stands couples actually use are different roads, different unions, and different rates.
From Pahalgam, the pony path follows the Lidder towards Aru Valley. The ponies wait at the stand in town. Go in the morning if you slept in Pahalgam. A noon arrival from Srinagar meets the coaches. That overnight is the Pahalgam couples package.
At Sonmarg, the pony is for the Thajiwas side valley, a short ride from the road when the union is running. At Gulmarg, Khilanmarg sits above the main meadow. You can walk all three if you would rather not sit a pony. Walking the Lidder trail takes longer and is quieter once the ponies have gone ahead.

A “Kashmiri pony price” copied from a blog is how people argue with a handler who is charging what the board says today. We will not print a rupee figure here. If you want the number for your week, ask us and we will check the stand, or read the board when you arrive.
Your Srinagar taxi takes you to the town or the Gulmarg meadow. It does not climb the pony path. Pay the pony at the stand. Children ride with the handler beside them. Tell us if anyone is uneasy on a horse and we will plan the walk instead.

Each meadow posts its own union rate, and it changes. A number we typed last season would be wrong. Ask at the stand, or ask us the week you travel and we will tell you what the stand is charging then.
The handler walks beside the pony and holds the lead. A toddler rides with an adult, not alone. If you would rather walk, the Lidder trail at Pahalgam and Thajiwas can both be walked. The pony is the shorter option, not the only one.
No. You hire at the meadow. We can point you to the stand and tell you the going rate that week. Paying a hotel desk a second commission is optional and usually worse.
Yes. Sleep in Pahalgam and take the pony towards Aru Valley in the morning, before the day-trip coaches. That stay is the Pahalgam couples package. The pony fare is still extra.
