Warwan sits in Kishtwar, reached from the Kashmir side through Kokernag and Daksum, then over Margan Top. It is not a meadow you add after Pahalgam lunch. For a first Kashmir trip, the first-visit route (Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonmarg) is the kinder plan.
From Srinagar the morning goes south through Anantnag toward Kokernag, then the Daksum road, then the climb to Margan Top. The top is the decision point. If cloud is on the pass, we turn back. The descent into Warwan is slower than the map suggests, and the last stretch is a village road, not a highway.
Leave Srinagar early. A late start means you arrive in the dark, and the valley has little lighting. The car stays with you. This is not a shared-sumo plan we run for a couple who asked for comfort.
Inshan is the usual stop. Rooms are family guesthouses. Dinner is whatever the kitchen is cooking, often rice and a simple gravy, not a Boulevard menu. Carry a layer even in July. The valley floor is high enough that the evening cools fast.
If you want a river walk and a second morning, take two nights. One night is mostly driving. We will say that on the quote before you pay.
On a five-day honeymoon. You would drop Gulmarg or Pahalgam to make the pass, and you would trade the houseboat for a basic room. Keep Warwan for a longer trip, or for a couple who already know Srinagar and want the quiet road. A softer offbeat night, still with a room and a shorter drive, is the Gurez valley trip over Razdan.
Month choice for the rest of Kashmir stays on best time to visit Kashmir. Margan itself is a late-spring to early-autumn road.
Cash. Card machines are not the plan. A warm layer, a basic medical kit, and snacks from Srinagar. Fuel the car before Daksum. Tell us about motion sickness before we route the pass. The climb is a series of bends, not a straight climb.
No. The drive from Srinagar to the valley floor, via Daksum and Margan Top, is a full road day each way. A couple needs at least one night in the valley, and two nights if you want a walk that is not rushed.
No. Margan Top is a summer and early autumn crossing. Snow closes it. We check the road the week you want to go, and we do not sell a winter Warwan night.
Simple. Think a local guesthouse in Inshan or nearby, not a Dal Lake houseboat and not a Gulmarg hotel. Hot water and a heater are questions we ask the owner before we confirm, not promises on this page.
Patchy, and often absent once you drop into the valley. Tell family your plan before Daksum. We do not count on a video call from Warwan.
