Sonamarg is a day trip from Srinagar. The Z-Morh tunnel, open since January 2025, keeps the road usable in most winter weather, though heavy snow can still close it for a short time. A same-day return taxi with us costs ₹2,500 in a Toyota Etios or Swift Dzire and ₹3,500 in an Innova Crysta, tolls and parking included.
Summer and early autumn are the easy months. Since the Sonamarg (Z-Morh) tunnel opened in January 2025, the road from Srinagar is built for all-weather access, so winter is no longer ruled out. Heavy snow can still close it for a short time while it is cleared, so we confirm road conditions before you travel. Zoji La, beyond Sonmarg, is a separate seasonal pass.
Drive from Srinagar, stop in the valley, and walk toward Thajiwas if the path is open and you are comfortable on a short rough track. Ponies there are paid at the stand. Then drive back.
