Amritsar is close enough to Jammu that the road is a real choice, not a slogan. The highway car is the Jammu to Srinagar taxi. Flying is on this page too.
By road: Amritsar to Jammu is a few hours via Pathankot, then NH44 from Jammu to Srinagar for the rest of the day. Start early. By air: Amritsar (ATQ) to Delhi to Srinagar is the ticket that is usually on sale. We do not promise an ATQ–SXR nonstop.
The road version is one long day if you leave Amritsar at dawn and the highway is clear. Winter snow and a jam at the tunnel make it an overnight in Jammu. The flight version is a half day when the Delhi connection is kind, and a full day when it is not.
If you drive, sleep in Srinagar that night and start Gulmarg the next day. If you fly, you can use a five-day valley plan. Do not schedule the Golden Temple inside the Srinagar days. You live next to it, or you have already been.
