A Srinagar airport arrival with us ends at your hotel door, and for our package guests that means a Kashmiri shawl round your shoulders and a welcome drink in your hand. Our 30 September reel shows a grey sedan pulling in under a hotel porch with "Welcome to Kashmir" on screen, our 1 October reel shows a family in a hotel lobby being handed red welcome drinks, and our 3 October reel shows our team placing shawls on a family with a little boy watching. This post covers the part the reels don't show: what happens between the plane door and that porch.

Your first hour in Srinagar at a glance
| Step | What happens | Roughly how long |
|---|---|---|
| Land and collect bags | Srinagar International Airport is in Budgam, about 12 km south of the city. Keep your phone off flight mode and check for our driver's message. | Depends on the belt |

| Drive to your hotel or houseboat | Usually to the Dalgate or Boulevard side of Dal Lake, or wherever your first night is. | About half an hour to 45 minutes in normal traffic |
| Welcome and check-in | Shawl and welcome drink for package guests, room keys, and a quick chat about tomorrow's plan. | 15 to 20 minutes |
How our airport pickup works
Once you book, we ask for three things: your flight number, how many of you there are, and how many bags. The bags matter more than people think. Two people with two big suitcases fit easily in an Etios or Dzire. A family of five with winter luggage needs an Innova Crysta, and a group like the one in our ladies group trip post needs a bigger van.
The evening before you fly, you get the driver's name, phone number and car number on WhatsApp. On landing day the driver watches your flight, so if it's late he waits. You don't need to call anyone from the belt. Walk out, look for the car number, and you're on your way.
Our 1 October reel puts it simply: a traditional Kashmiri shawl, a welcome drink, and a team that looks after you. The shawl and welcome drink are for our package guests.
What a pickup costs
If you're on one of our packages, airport pickup and drop are already included. Our packages start from ₹12,999 per person for Srinagar 4 days / 3 nights, ₹16,999 for Gulmarg 4D/3N and ₹19,999 for Pahalgam 5D/4N (2026 prices, two sharing). If you only want a car, our full-day cab with driver is ₹2,500 a day for an Etios or Dzire and ₹3,500 a day for an Innova Crysta, tolls and parking included. For a one-way airport drop on its own, call or WhatsApp us for a quote for your date and car. Fare details for the airport to Dal Lake run are in our airport to Dal Lake taxi fare guide, and you can book the transfer on our Srinagar airport taxi page.
What to sort out before you land
Your phone
This is the one that catches people out. Prepaid SIMs from outside Jammu and Kashmir don't work here; postpaid ones do. If you're on prepaid, the airport is not where you want to discover it, because you won't be able to call the driver. Our SIM guide for Kashmir explains your options. We send driver details on WhatsApp the day before so you have them saved either way, and the driver has your photo or name to look for.
Cash and ID
Keep a government photo ID handy, not packed in the big bag. Hotels and houseboats ask for it at check-in, and you'll need it for a local SIM. A little cash helps for small things on the first day, though most places in Srinagar take UPI.
Warm layer in the cabin bag
From November the air at Srinagar is a lot colder than at Delhi or Mumbai, especially for evening arrivals. Keep a jacket where you can reach it before you step out of the terminal.
Winter arrivals: fog, delays and what we do
From late November into January, morning fog sometimes holds flights at Srinagar or sends them back, and heavy snow can do the same, as it did in December 2024. It's the main reason we tell winter guests not to fix a Gulmarg or Sonamarg run for the afternoon they land. Keep day one for Srinagar: check in, rest, maybe a short evening shikara if the flight came in on time.
If your flight is delayed, our driver is tracking it and waits. If it's cancelled, message us and we'll move the pickup and talk to the hotel about your first night. That's much easier when you've booked the stay and the car with the same people. More on what winter looks like is in our Kashmir in December guide.
What we'd do with the rest of your first day

Most of our guests land between late morning and early afternoon. Here's how we'd plan the rest of that day:
- Check in, eat, and rest for an hour. Srinagar is at about 1,600 m, and a slow first afternoon helps.
- If there's light left, take a shikara on Dal Lake before sunset. You can book it on our Dal Lake shikara page.
- Keep the evening easy: dinner at the hotel or houseboat and an early night before the first long drive.
- Save the Mughal gardens and the old city for day two, with the same car and driver.
Our 3 October welcome reel lists what follows the welcome: comfortable stays, private sightseeing with experienced drivers, and someone to call 24 hours a day. That last part starts the minute you land.
FAQ
How far is Srinagar airport from Dal Lake?
The airport is about 12 km south of Srinagar city. Most drives to the Dalgate or Boulevard side take half an hour to 45 minutes in normal traffic; your exact hotel or houseboat jetty changes that a little.
Do Uber and Ola work at Srinagar airport?
Don't count on them. Book a pickup in advance or use the taxis at the airport, and keep the slip if you take a prepaid one.
Can you pick us up late at night?
Tell us the flight number when you book. Our team is on call 24x7 through your trip, and we plan the pickup around your landing time.
Landing soon? Tell us your flight
Send us your flight number, travel dates and how many of you are coming, and we'll set up the pickup, the welcome and the first night.
