A green meadow on the Lidder, about 15 km above Pahalgam town on the road to Chandanwari. Most guests see it with Aru and Chandanwari in one morning.
Direct answer: Betaab Valley is a riverside meadow about 15 km from Pahalgam on the Chandanwari road, and Pahalgam is about 95 km from Srinagar. Outside cars, including ours, stop in Pahalgam town; from there you take a Pahalgam taxi union vehicle for Betaab, usually as one circuit with Aru Valley and Chandanwari. Our taxi rates guide lists that union circuit at about ₹2,200–2,800 per vehicle, paid to the union. There is a local entry ticket at the valley gate.
The valley took its name from the Hindi film Betaab, which was shot here in the early 1980s. Today it is a fenced park with lawns, footbridges over the Lidder and pine slopes on both sides.
Drive Srinagar to Pahalgam via Pampore and Awantipora, about 95 km. A same-day return taxi with us is ₹2,500 in a Toyota Etios or Swift Dzire and ₹3,500 in an Innova Crysta, tolls and parking included; the details are on the Srinagar to Pahalgam taxi fare page.
At Pahalgam the union stand takes over. The usual circuit is Betaab, Chandanwari and Aru, sometimes split over two mornings if you sleep in Pahalgam. Ponies also run from town, but Betaab is on the motor road, so most guests take the union cab for it.
As a day trip from Srinagar you can see Betaab and one more stop, but you will spend most of the day in the car. A night in Pahalgam turns Betaab into an unhurried morning before the day-trip crowd arrives. Our Pahalgam 5D/4N package is ₹19,999 per person (2 sharing, 5% GST included) and builds that night in. Couples can look at the Pahalgam couples package.
Spring to autumn is the easy season: green lawns from about April, full river in early summer, and gold and brown colours in October. In the Amarnath Yatra weeks the Chandanwari road is busy with yatra traffic, so plan Betaab early in the day. See the yatra guide.
In winter, snow can close the road above Pahalgam for days at a time. We check the road status with Pahalgam before we plan Betaab in late autumn or winter, and we do not promise it on a snow day. The Kashmir weather guide has month-by-month conditions.
About 15 km, on the road from Pahalgam towards Chandanwari. Pahalgam itself is about 95 km from Srinagar.
No. Outside cars stop in Pahalgam town. Betaab, Aru and Chandanwari are covered by the Pahalgam taxi union, which our taxi rates guide lists at about Rs 2,200 to 2,800 per vehicle for the circuit, paid to the union.
Yes, there is a local entry ticket at the gate. It is paid there and is not part of our fare; we do not print the day's fee.
Yes, the union circuit covers all three, but on a same-day trip from Srinagar it is a long day. A night in Pahalgam makes it relaxed.
Snow can close the road above Pahalgam in winter. We check the road with Pahalgam before planning it and tell you before you travel.
