Phase 1 runs from the Gulmarg base to Kongdoori, around 10,000 feet. The ride is short, about nine minutes, and the top has a walk, tea stalls, and, in winter, snow underfoot. Most couples who are not chasing a ridge photo are happy here.
Phase 2 continues from Kongdoori toward Apharwat, near 13,780 feet. The air is thinner. Skip it with a baby, or if either of you has a heart or breathing problem. In December and January the upper line is a wind call. In late October it can already be closed for the day while Phase 1 still runs.
The J&K Cable Car Corporation sells seats on its own site. In the snow weeks (late December through February) and again in May and June, the popular morning slots go weeks ahead, sometimes two or three months for Christmas and New Year. Book the gondola before you lock a non-refundable flight if the ride is the reason for the trip.
A confirmed ticket is not a short queue. The base still lines up. The 9:00 slot beats the Srinagar day-trip coaches that reach Tangmarg late morning. If you are driving up that morning, leave Srinagar early. The Tangmarg check can add time when chains are on.

You buy the gondola ticket in your own names. We book the car from Srinagar or the Gulmarg hotel, tell you which phase matches the week, and keep a backup meadow walk if the upper line stops. Bring the same ID you typed on the ticket. Wear shoes you can stand in on snow if the month is December to February.
On the official Gulmarg Gondola site, gulmarggondola.com. There is no counter in Gulmarg that sells a fresh ticket on the day. We do not sell the ticket ourselves. We tell you which phase is realistic for your dates and how early to be at the base.
A physical government photo ID in the same name as the online ticket. The gate checks the name. A photo of the ID on a phone is a gamble we would not take.
Phase 2 to Apharwat stops when the wind is up. The corporation publishes its own refund rule on the booking site. Read that rule before you pay. We will not promise a refund we do not control.
Often yes. Kongdoori is the meadow, the cafes, and the snow play in winter. Phase 2 is a thinner-air ridge and a weather call. If one of you gets breathless easily, stop at Phase 1.
Yes, if the ticket slot is early. The drive is via Tangmarg and the road fills after 10. A couple who want the first cabin should sleep in Gulmarg the night before. That stay is the Gulmarg honeymoon package, not this page.
