Who this is for

Guests who want river, pine forest and valley walks more than snow and cable cars. Pahalgam sits where the Lidder comes down from the mountains, and the valleys above it (Aru, Betaab, Chandanwari) are the reason to go. 5-day itinerary (5D/4N)

Day 1: SXR, houseboat, shikara

Airport pickup (the same service as our Srinagar airport taxi), houseboat check-in, one-hour shikara on Dal Lake in the evening. Dinner and the night on the houseboat.

Day 2: Srinagar to Pahalgam

A slow drive south. The saffron fields at Pampore (in flower for a few weeks around late October and early November), then the Awantipora temple ruins. Evening walk along the Lidder in Pahalgam town. Dinner and the night at a 3-star hotel in Pahalgam.

Day 3: Aru, Betaab and Chandanwari

The local union taxi takes you up the valleys from Pahalgam (union fare extra, paid there). Betaab Valley with its meadow and stream, Chandanwari higher up the Lidder, and Aru village and meadow. Rather keep it slow? Skip the union taxi and spend the day by the river. Second night in Pahalgam.

Day 4: Lidder morning, back to Srinagar

A last walk by the Lidder after breakfast, then the drive back to Srinagar. Dinner and the night at a 3-star hotel.

Day 5: Fly

Airport drop with a buffer. Late flight? Nishat or Shalimar on the way.

The valleys, and the Lidder

Betaab: the easiest of the three. Flat meadow, the stream, walking paths. Good for elders and kids.
Chandanwari: higher up the Lidder, with snow into May or June in most years. It is also the start of the Amarnath Yatra route, so July and August can be restricted.
Aru: a village with a wide meadow and the quietest feel of the three. Best if you want to walk for an hour, not just stop for photos.
The Lidder: the river runs right through town. The riverside walk is part of Day 2 and Day 4, no union taxi needed.

Local tips from our drivers

Agree the union taxi route (which valleys, how long at each) before you get in. The fare is set by the union, not by us.
Pony operators will quote high; agree the price and the exact points before you mount. Ponies are optional and not included.
Carry a warm layer even in June. Chandanwari is much colder than Pahalgam town.
July and August: yatra convoys slow the Srinagar to Pahalgam road. We leave early and plan around convoy timings.

What does the ₹19,999 Pahalgam package include?

Per person for two people sharing a room: 1 houseboat night on Dal Lake, 2 nights in Pahalgam and 1 night in a Srinagar hotel (3-star), breakfast and dinner, a private Toyota Etios with tolls and parking included, airport pickup and drop, a 1-hour shikara and 5% GST.

Can our cab from Srinagar take us to Aru, Betaab and Chandanwari?

No. Past Pahalgam town the local taxi union runs these three valleys, so you switch to a union vehicle for that loop. Your own Etios and driver wait in Pahalgam. The union fare is paid locally and is not part of the package price.

Why two nights in Pahalgam?

One night means doing the valleys in a rushed afternoon after a long drive. With two nights you have a full day for Aru, Betaab and Chandanwari, and a morning by the Lidder before you head back to Srinagar.

Is Chandanwari open in July and August?

Chandanwari is the start of the Amarnath Yatra route, so during the yatra tourist access can be restricted and the Pahalgam road is busy with convoys. We check the rules for your dates and change the plan if needed.

How much more in peak season, and what does a family of four pay?

Add ₹2,000 to ₹4,000 per person from April to June and over Christmas and New Year. A family of four in two rooms with an Innova Crysta instead of the Etios pays about ₹68,000 in total on off-peak dates.
