Direct answer: Five to six days is enough for most first trips to Kashmir: it covers Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonmarg without rushing. Four days suits a Srinagar-based trip with one or two day trips. Seven days lets you slow down, add an extra Pahalgam night or a place like Gurez. Add about two days each way if you come by train.
"Kitne din chahiye?" comes right after "Total kitna lagega?" on almost every call to our Pantha Chowk desk. The honest answer depends on how many places you want and how much driving you are happy with. Here is how we plan it.
How many days for Kashmir at a glance
| Days | What fits | Our 2026 package (per person, 2 sharing) |
|---|---|---|
| 4 days / 3 nights | Srinagar, Dal Lake and one or two day trips | Srinagar 4D/3N from ₹12,999, or Gulmarg 4D/3N from ₹16,999 |
| 5 days / 4 nights | Srinagar plus two nights in Pahalgam | Pahalgam 5D/4N from ₹19,999 |
| 5 to 6 days | Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonmarg | Quoted for your dates |
| 7 days | The same four places at a slower pace, or an add-on like Gurez | See our 7-day itinerary; quoted for your dates |
Package prices include 5% GST. Peak dates can cost more. Flights, Gondola tickets, ponies and Pahalgam union taxis are not included unless your quote says so.
A 6-day shape that works for most first trips
- Arrive in Srinagar. Airport pickup, hotel or houseboat, an evening shikara if you have energy left. A late landing ends in Srinagar, not on the highway.
- Sonmarg day trip. Up the Sindh valley and back the same day.
- Gulmarg. Meadow and the Gondola. Keep Gulmarg mid-trip so one cloudy morning does not cost you the Gondola.
- To Pahalgam. Drive south and stay the night.
- Pahalgam valleys. Aru, Betaab and Chandanwari run on local union vehicles, a separate cost. Baisaran is closed until the end of 2026.
- Back to Srinagar and depart, with a buffer before the flight.
Only five days? Do Gulmarg as a day trip from Srinagar. Our same-day return cabs to Gulmarg, Pahalgam or Sonmarg cost ₹2,500 in an Etios and ₹3,500 in an Innova Crysta, tolls and parking included (cab services).
When you need more days
- Coming by train or road: add about two days each way. See how to reach Kashmir.
- Families with small children or elders: fewer hotel changes and shorter drive days. See our family tour package.
- Winter: snow can slow or close roads, so keep a spare day. See the winter tour package.
- Honeymoon: a slower pace with a houseboat night. See the honeymoon package.
Common mistakes
- Trying to "do" Gulmarg, Sonmarg and Pahalgam in three days. You spend the trip in the car.
- Putting Gulmarg on the last day. If the weather turns, there is no second chance.
- Landing late and driving to Pahalgam the same evening. Sleep in Srinagar.

Quick answers
Is 4 days enough for Kashmir?
Yes, for a Srinagar-based trip: Dal Lake, a shikara, the Mughal gardens and one or two day trips to Gulmarg or Sonmarg. Our Srinagar 4D/3N package starts from ₹12,999 per person and Gulmarg 4D/3N from ₹16,999 (2026, two sharing, 5% GST included).
Is 5 days enough for Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam?
Yes, if you do Gulmarg as a day trip from Srinagar and give Pahalgam two nights. Our Pahalgam 5D/4N package starts from ₹19,999 per person (2026, two sharing). Adding Sonmarg comfortably needs a sixth day.
Is 7 days too long for Kashmir?
No. Seven days lets you cover Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonmarg at a slower pace, with fewer early starts, or add a place like Gurez in spring. Families and honeymoon couples often prefer it.
How many days do we need if we come by train?
Add about two days each way to your Kashmir days. From Ahmedabad, for example, the train to Jammu Tawi takes about 32 hours, then the Vande Bharat to Srinagar takes under five hours.
