November is the month between two Kashmirs. The chinar colour of October is falling off the trees, the lake goes still and grey-blue in the mornings, and the snow trip of December has not started. For two people who want quiet more than a checklist, it can be the best honeymoon month of the year. For a couple who has promised everyone back home a snow photo, it can disappoint. This page is about telling those two apart before you book.

Direct answer: A Kashmir honeymoon in November suits couples who want cold, mostly dry days, a quiet Srinagar, warm rooms and slow mornings. Expect cold nights: IMD's long-term average minimum for Srinagar in November is about 1 C, and lower in Gulmarg and Pahalgam. Snow is possible in the higher resorts but not guaranteed, and Srinagar city rarely sees it this early. Book heated stays first, keep one flexible day, and treat any snow as a bonus. The ground plan with a starting rate is our Kashmir honeymoon package; the month-by-month choice is on Kashmir honeymoon by season.

What the weather is really like in November

These are long-term averages, not a forecast for your week. Source: India Meteorological Department, Met Centre Srinagar, city climatological tables for 1991-2020.

Place Average daily max Average daily min Average rainfall Average rainy days
Srinagar 15.9 C 1.2 C 27.7 mm 2.2
Gulmarg 9.0 C -0.6 C 57.2 mm 3.7
Pahalgam 13.1 C -1.4 C 51.3 mm 3.0

What that means for two people on holiday:

  • Srinagar afternoons are usually pleasant in a sweater and jacket. After sunset it is properly cold, and a shikara at dusk needs a warm layer and a blanket
  • Gulmarg and Pahalgam average below freezing at night. A room without working heat is not romantic, it is a long night
  • Rain or snow days are few on average, but a single western disturbance can change two or three days of a trip. We check the IMD Srinagar forecast in the week before you fly

For comparison, October in Srinagar averages about 23 C by day and 6 C at night on the same IMD table. If you have read our Kashmir in October for couples plan, November is that trip with a colder evening and fewer people.

Will we see snow on a November honeymoon?

Maybe. That is the honest answer, and anyone who promises you snow on a fixed November date is guessing. In our Kashmir snowfall guide we call November the gamble month: a western disturbance can bring real snow to Gulmarg and Sonamarg, or the month can stay dry and brown. Srinagar city usually gets its first snow, if at all, in late December or January.

How we plan around it:

  • If snow is the whole reason for the trip, move it to December to February and look at our Kashmir winter tour package
  • If you want November's quiet but hope for snow, put Gulmarg in the middle of the trip, not on the last day, so a fresh spell has time to arrive and a bad-weather day has room to move
  • If snow does not come, Gulmarg in November is still cold and quiet. Plan the day around the meadow and a warm lunch, not around a white photograph

Which places suit couples in November

Srinagar: the heart of a November honeymoon

This is the month the city belongs to the people who live in it. Gardens are quieter, and the chinars in and around the Mughal gardens are dropping their leaves. In our chinar and autumn colour guide we put the deepest reds around early November, though the exact days shift every year with the weather. A late morning walk under the trees, a long lunch, and a shikara in the softer afternoon light is a full, happy day for two.

The houseboat night still makes sense in November, with one condition: heating. Ask for a working heater or bukhari in the bedroom you will sleep in, hot water in the evening, and extra blankets. Our houseboat in Srinagar price guide has the full checklist. If you want the quieter water, we often suggest Nigeen over the busiest stretch of Dal; we explain why in Nigeen Lake for couples.

Gulmarg: cold, quiet, and a weather call

Of the places couples usually visit, Gulmarg has the best odds of early snow, and it has the coldest days on the IMD table above. The gondola depends on wind and weather, especially the upper phase, and tickets are not part of our package. Book on the official site once your dates are fixed; our Gulmarg gondola booking page explains how. If you want to wake up to the meadow rather than drive up for the day, ask about the Gulmarg honeymoon package, and we will confirm heating before we book the room.

Pahalgam: the quiet river

Pahalgam in November is cold and very calm. Lidder walks in the late morning sun, a warm room in the evening, and not much else, which is the point. Side valleys like Betaab and Aru depend on the cold and the road conditions that week, so we do not promise them. For two nights by the river, see the Pahalgam couples package.

Sonamarg and beyond: only if the road says yes

The Sonamarg tunnel, opened on 13 January 2025, has made the road to Sonamarg more reliable in the cold months than it used to be. Beyond Sonamarg is a different matter: the Directorate of Tourism lists the Zojila pass as open from May to November, weather permitting. We decide on a Sonamarg day the evening before, never weeks ahead.

Where we do not go in November

We do not plan Gurez for November honeymoons. As our snowfall guide explains, the road over Razdan Pass usually closes after the first heavy snow. Come back for Gurez in summer.

A November shape we use for couples

This is not a fixed itinerary, just the pacing that tends to work in the cold.

  1. Arrival day: airport to a heated room or houseboat. Tea, a short walk, early dinner. No sightseeing marathon
  2. Srinagar day: one Mughal garden for the leaf fall, a long lunch, and a private shikara in the afternoon while there is still warmth in the light
  3. Gulmarg day, or two: placed in the middle of the trip. Meadow walk, gondola only if the weather allows, back before dark or a heated night up there
  4. Pahalgam or a slow Srinagar day: decided on the evening before, by weather and how tired you both are
  5. Departure: keep the last morning loose. IMD's Srinagar table averages only about one fog day in November (1.1), so fog is not the main risk yet, but a weather day can still delay a flight

What to book first for November

  • Heated stays. Before the car, before the gondola. Ask exactly how the room is heated and whether heating costs extra
  • Flights with a sensible arrival time. Daylight is short in November, so a late landing means the first day is just check-in and dinner
  • A private car with a working heater, so you are not standing at a taxi stand in the cold
  • One flexible day in the plan for a western disturbance
  • The houseboat night early in the trip, when you are fresh and the lake is calm

What to pack for two

  • Thermal base layers for both of you, not only a jacket
  • A proper warm coat, wool cap, gloves and a scarf. Evenings on the deck or in a shikara are colder than the daytime number suggests
  • Closed, waterproof shoes with grip. Morning frost and wet garden paths are slippery
  • Moisturiser and lip balm. Cold valley air dries skin quickly
  • One smarter warm outfit for photos, so the jacket does not have to be in every picture

Kashmir honeymoon in November: questions couples ask

Is November a good month for a Kashmir honeymoon?

Yes, if you want quiet, cold, mostly dry days and a slow trip with warm rooms. It is not the right month if guaranteed snow is the main goal. For that, look at December to February.

How cold is Kashmir in November?

IMD's 1991-2020 normals put Srinagar at about 15.9 C by day and 1.2 C at night on average. Gulmarg averages about 9.0 C and -0.6 C, and Pahalgam about 13.1 C and -1.4 C. Your week can run colder or warmer than the average.

Will there be snow in Gulmarg in November?

Possibly, but not guaranteed. Early spells do reach Gulmarg in some Novembers and not in others. We watch the forecast before your Gulmarg day and place it in the middle of the trip to improve your odds.

Is a houseboat too cold in November?

Not if the heating works. We confirm a heater or bukhari in your bedroom, evening hot water and extra blankets before we ask you to pay. If a boat cannot confirm that, we put you in a heated hotel instead and tell you why.

How many days do we need for a November honeymoon?

Five days is the minimum we like for Srinagar, Gulmarg and one more stop. Six or seven gives you a buffer day for weather.

Plan your November trip

Tell us your dates, how cold you are both happy to be, and whether snow is a hope or a must. We will tell you honestly what November can give you, place the houseboat and Gulmarg nights where they make sense, and confirm heating before anything is paid.
