Last winter we stood with a Bangalore couple at Kongdoori while the upper line waited on wind. Phase 1 had been calm. Phase 2 was a different mountain. When the cabins finally moved, the air thinned, the pine belt dropped away, and both of them went quiet for a full minute. Our 18 October 2026 reel put the Gondola reference rates on screen for guests planning a January trip. They are per person, they can change, and the only price that counts is the one on the official J&K Cable Car Corporation (JKCCC) e-ticket site, etickets.jammukashmircablecar.com, on the day you pay.

- Tickets sell out. Book on the official site as soon as your Gulmarg date is fixed. Don't buy from touts.
- Phase 2 can close in strong wind or after fresh snowfall, even when Phase 1 is running. Treat it as a bonus, not the whole day.

Is there snow in Gulmarg Phase 2 today? How to check
We cannot tell you from this page whether there is snow at Phase 2 today, and nobody should promise it a day ahead. Snow at Apharwat comes and goes with each weather spell, and in autumn the sun can melt the lower patches within days. This is how we check on the morning before a Gulmarg day:
- Read the notices on the J&K Cable Car Corporation site. That is where the corporation posts its updates, and only it can say whether Phase 2 is running.
- Look at the IMD Srinagar forecast for fresh snow and wind. The same spell that brings snow to the top can also stop the upper line.
- In the ski season, the Gulmarg Avalanche Center observations map shows recent dated snowpack reports from the mountain.
- WhatsApp us on 7006085655. We will tell you what we last heard and when we heard it.
We do not know of an official Gondola webcam. Third-party "live webcam" pages for Gulmarg turn up in search, but we cannot vouch for where they point or how fresh the picture is, so do not plan on them. Our latest dated snow report is in the first snowfall post.
What is Gulmarg Gondola Phase 2, in plain terms?
Last checked: 28 Sep 2026. The Gulmarg Gondola is run by the Jammu & Kashmir Cable Car Corporation. Their public site (jammukashmircablecar.com) points booking to its official e-ticket site, etickets.jammukashmircablecar.com. Older booking addresses still turn up in search, so type the official address yourself. Use the corporation's own links, not a roadside "agent rate."
Two phases matter for couples:
- Phase 1: Gulmarg base to Kongdoori (around 10,000 ft). Short ride, meadow feel, cafes and walking space. Most couples are happy stopping here.
- Phase 2: Kongdoori onward toward Apharwat (near 13,780 ft on commonly cited figures used on our booking page). Higher, colder, more exposed. This is the ridge experience people mean when they say "we went to the top."
The reference rates from our 18 October 2026 reel are ₹800 for Phase 1, ₹1,000 for Phase 2 and ₹1,800 for both, per person (table above). The corporation revises rates and slot types, so check the live amount at checkout on the official booking site the day you pay.
What does Gulmarg Gondola Phase 2 height feel like for a couple?
Numbers help planning. Sensation decides whether you enjoy the hour.
At Kongdoori you already feel cooler than Srinagar. On Phase 2 the cabin climbs into a sharper, thinner layer. Conversations get shorter. You notice your breath. Sunglasses help when the ridge is bright. Gloves matter even in months that felt mild at lunch in the city.
Couples who do well:
- Both want the height, not only one person chasing a photo.
- Neither has an acute heart, lung, or severe altitude sensitivity (when in doubt, stop at Phase 1 and talk to a doctor before travel).
- You packed a real outer layer, not fashion denim and a thin scarf.
Couples who should skip without guilt:
- One of you felt breathless on the Phase 1 walk.
- Cloud sits hard on the ridge and the view will be grey glass.

Gulmarg Gondola Phase 2 weather: when the top opens and when it does not
Last checked: 28 Sep 2026. Phase 2 is a wind and visibility call more often than Phase 1. In December and January we treat upper-line closures as normal, not a failed trip. In late autumn we have also seen Phase 1 still running while Phase 2 stays shut for the day.
How we brief couples the night before:
- Check the IMD Srinagar forecast for wind and precipitation.
- Decide whether Phase 2 is a hope or a need. If it is a need (hard photo plan, hard bucket list), keep a second Gulmarg morning or accept that weather may refuse you.
- Buy tickets only when both of you still want the height after seeing the sky. A confirmed e-ticket is not a promise the upper cable will run every minute of your slot window. Read the corporation's own refund or reschedule rule on the booking site before you pay. We will not promise a refund we do not control.
What you actually see at the top (and what you do not)
On a clear day Phase 2 delivers the wide alpine frame: rock, snow lines in season, and that sense that Gulmarg's golf meadow is suddenly far below. Couples remember the silence in the cabin more than any cafe stop.
What Phase 2 is not:
- A long hiking circuit. You are still on managed cable infrastructure, not a free scramble.
- A guaranteed snow playground in every month. Shoulder seasons can show bare rock and wind more than soft powder.
- A private romantic lounge. You share cabins and platforms. Timing and patience matter more than posing.
If both of you mainly want grass, soft light, and kahwa without thin air, Phase 1 plus a meadow walk is the better couple day. We say that out loud. The couples tour package is built around comfort pacing, not collecting every cable segment.

Sleep close if the slot is early
An early slot from a Srinagar day trip means racing the Tangmarg climb with coaches. If Phase 2 is the reason for the Gulmarg day, we prefer a Gulmarg night so you walk to the base instead of watching the clock. That overnight logic is the same comfort idea behind our honeymoon pacing.
Meadow and Phase 1 first as a body check
Walk a little at base or Kongdoori before you commit emotionally to the upper line. If one of you already feels off, stopping is a good decision, not a weak one.
Keep the afternoon soft

Gulmarg Gondola Phase 2 in October and November
Autumn is when Apharwat turns white first. In 2025 the season's first snow fell on Affarwat on the night of 2 to 3 October. This year Afarwat got fresh snow on the night of 6 October and again on 13 and 14 October 2026, while the Gulmarg meadow below stayed green. So in October and November, Phase 2 is often the one place on a Gulmarg day where you can stand in snow.
The catch is the weather that brings it. The spells that dust the top also bring the wind that stops the upper line, and in late autumn we have seen Phase 1 running while Phase 2 stays shut for the day. - Agree that Phase 2 is optional if wind or health says no
