Yes, Gulmarg got fresh snow today. At 1:22 PM on Monday, 28 September 2026, we posted a reel from Gulmarg with "Another fresh spell of snow in Gulmarg" on screen: the ridge above the market dusted white, rain on the plaza below and people walking around in raincoats. Twenty-seven minutes later a second reel came in from Gulmarg Gondola Phase 2, where the ground itself is white.

What our Gulmarg snowfall reels show today
Reel 1: snow on the ridge, rain in the market (1:22 PM)
The first reel opens on the Gulmarg market on a grey, wet afternoon. The paving is soaked and full of puddles. People in raincoats stand outside the green-roofed Yemberzal Hotel & Restaurant and the Old Punjabi Dhaba, one of them under a blue umbrella. Behind the pines, the mountain ridge has a fresh coat of white. The on-screen line reads "Kashmir is getting ready for winter. Mon: Sep: 28".
Zahid's caption puts it simply: "Another fresh spell of snowfall has arrived in Gulmarg and the higher regions of Kashmir. The mountains are already getting their first winter touch."
So in this clip it's rain at market level. The snow is up high.
Reel 2: white ground at Gondola Phase 2 (1:49 PM)
The second reel, from Gulmarg Gondola Phase 2, carries the line "Kashmir just got another fresh spell of snow!" It's close to a whiteout up there: fresh snow over the ground with dark rocks poking through, a red EXIT sign and a metal railing at the edge of the frame. The caption: "If Kashmir in snow is on your bucket list, this is your sign to start planning!"
Is this the first snowfall in Gulmarg in 2026?
No. It's the second time this September we've filmed fresh snow at Gulmarg, and the third snowy spell in Kashmir on our feed, which is why the caption says "another":
- 5 September: the season's first snow at Kaobal Gali, filmed through a car windscreen on a snowy mountain road.
- 17 September: first snow overnight on the upper area of Gulmarg Phase 2.
- 28 September: today's spell, on the peaks above the market and on the ground at Phase 2.
For comparison, last season the first snow above Gulmarg fell on Affarwat (Sunshine Peak) on the night of 2-3 October 2025. This year the upper slopes have already turned white more than once in September.
Gulmarg snowfall in September: what it means for your trip
Early spells like this settle on the high ground. You'll see snow from the Gondola and on the ridges, exactly as the reels show. That doesn't mean the Gulmarg meadow will be under snow when you arrive next week: today's first reel shows the market wet, not white. In most years the snow you can walk in and play in down in the resort comes in late November and December. Even then, snow is never guaranteed, and we tell every guest that before they book.
If you're travelling in October or early November and snow is the reason for the trip, put Gulmarg in the middle of your itinerary, not on the last day, so we can move it to the clearest day. How we'd plan a Gulmarg day right now
- Pack for rain and cold together. The people in today's first reel are in raincoats. Carry a waterproof layer, warm layers and shoes with grip, because the snow at Phase 2 sits on rocky ground.
- Check the Gondola on the day. Snow and cloud can affect Gondola operations. Book and check only on the official J&K Cable Car site, etickets.jammukashmircablecar.com. We don't quote Gondola fares here because they change; ask us and we'll check for your date.
- Don't assume the road. Conditions change with every spell. Our drivers check the Tangmarg to Gulmarg stretch on the morning of the trip.
