A Srinagar cab takes you between towns, but in Pahalgam, Gulmarg and Sonamarg the local sightseeing runs on union taxis. Your outside cab drops you at the stand, and you hire a union vehicle for the local spots at the rate on the union card. Knowing this before you go saves most of the arguments guests run into.

How the union taxi system works
- Pahalgam: Betaab Valley, Aru and Chandanwari are done in local union taxis from the Pahalgam stand. Baisaran is closed until the end of 2026.
- Gulmarg: in winter, cars may need chains at Tangmarg, or you may switch to a local 4x4 for the last stretch.
- Sonamarg: local vehicles run to the snow points beyond the town.
