If you are searching for cottages in Srinagar, start with what we actually filmed. On 20 September we posted a drone shot of a wooden A-frame among the trees, hills behind it, and the same day a ten-slide carousel that walks you through the stay: the pointed timber front, a double bedroom, an open kitchen, wooden stairs up to a loft, and a guest resting in bed. The carousel caption puts it plainly: only 12 km from Lal Chowk. That is the point. You get a cabin-style night without leaving the Srinagar side of the valley.

The A-frame: 12 km from Lal Chowk
The 20 September carousel is the clearest look inside. You see the exterior with a drone controller in the foreground, then the double bedroom, the open kitchen, the wooden loft stairs, and a guest resting. The drone reel from the same evening shows how the A-frame sits among the trees with hills behind it.
Our feed notes place it near Dachigam National Park. The public caption only locks in the Lal Chowk distance: 12 km. That is useful if you want one or two Srinagar days for Dal Lake, the Mughal gardens and the old city, then a quieter night out of the traffic without a long mountain drive. What we will not do here is invent a hotel name, a star rating or a per-night figure. Comment Bear on the posts means those details are not public. The blue cabin with a bonfire
In June we posted a different Srinagar option: a blue wooden cabin in a garden under tall trees. The 16 June 2026 reel caption lists cozy cabins and deluxe rooms, a garden, and bonfire evenings, and says the stay is located in Srinagar. On-screen it asks who says you need to leave Srinagar to experience nature. Comment SRINAGAR on that reel for stay details; again, we have not put a public room rate on this page.
This one suits guests who want to stay inside the city, wake up under trees, and sit by a fire in the evening without driving out toward Dachigam. It is a different mood from a Boulevard hotel, and different again from a houseboat on the lake.
Cottage vs hotel vs houseboat
When guests ask us where to sleep in Srinagar, we usually put three options on the table and pick based on the group, not on a slogan.
- Cottage or cabin: more outdoor space, a garden or trees, often a kitchen or loft. Good for couples and small families who want quiet evenings. Heating and exact location matter more than the photos, so ask both before you pay.
- Hotel: easier room service, staff on site, and a shorter hop to Lal Chowk or Dal Gate for day plans. Our verified hotel bookings (budget through 5-star) start from ₹1,500 (2026 "from" price on our Google listing).
- Heritage houseboat: the classic Dal Lake night. Same "from ₹1,500" band on our listing for verified hotels and heritage houseboats. Useful if a shikara morning is the main reason for the trip.
Two people do not always need a large resort. A cottage under trees can fit better than a busy Boulevard hotel, as long as the drive to your day sights still works. If the trip is mostly old-city walks and shikaras, stay closer to the lake. Tell us which matters more and we will pick with you.
October and November nights: ask about heating
From mid-October the valley nights drop fast even when the afternoons are mild. Our Kashmir in October guide puts Srinagar's long-term October night low around 6°C. A wooden cottage looks warm in a summer reel. It is only warm at night if there is a working heater, bukhari or well-insulated rooms.
Before you lock either stay, ask: what heating is in the bedroom you will sleep in, is hot water reliable late evening, and how long is the drive to Dal Gate or the airport at check-in. We have not verified a fixed drive time from this A-frame to Dal or the airport, so we will not invent one. The caption only confirms 12 km from Lal Chowk. Our airport taxi starts from ₹1,200 (2026); we confirm the drop when you send the stay address.
Dachigam next door: rules before you go
The A-frame posts sit near Dachigam National Park. That does not mean a cottage booking includes a park visit, and it does not promise animals on the drive. Dachigam is a protected area. Sightings are never guaranteed, and we will not sell the stay on Hangul or bear photos.
If you want to visit the park itself, use the Department of Wildlife Protection (UT of Jammu and Kashmir) Dachigam booking portal. As of our 27 September 2026 check it requires an online permission, allows one booking per day (max group 15), needs ID upload (passport for foreigners), and closes the park every Tuesday. Entry fees listed there: Indians ₹100 per person (children under 10 free), foreigners ₹500; camera fees are separate; no refund or date change after payment. Fees change, so re-check the portal for your date. Incredible India puts the park roughly 20 km from Srinagar; that is a city-to-park figure, not the distance from any cottage we filmed.

How we'd book cottages in Srinagar
- Send dates, headcount and whether you want a fire, a kitchen or a quiet bedroom under trees.
- Choose inside the city (blue cabin) or about 12 km out toward Dachigam (A-frame).
- Confirm heating for any night after mid-October.
- Keep one Srinagar base night for Dal and the gardens so the cottage night is a change, not your only foothold.
- For Dachigam, book the Wildlife Department permit on a non-Tuesday; we can help with the road plan.
